The lightweight utility Visibility for Mac reveals hidden folders and files inside the Finder with a click of a button. At only 1.4MB in size, this application downloads quickly and requires no setup.

The utility runs with a small footprint, both literally in terms of its window size, and figuratively in terms of its required resources. It doesn't even include any menu items across the menu bar. In fact, the menu bar doesn't even change to reflect that Visibility for Mac is an active application. Despite this small bit of confusion, the application performs its few easy tasks admirably, and once you get past its lack of conformity to standards, the interface is very intuitive. We found the two most useful tools to be the Open Any File feature, which allows for a selection of several different file types to open in their default applications, simultaneously, as well as the Show Invisible Files feature, which reveals all of your Mac's hidden files and folders with the push of a button. There is a third feature, Delete Any File, which doesn't appear to behave remarkably different than just deleting multiple files out of the Finder, itself. Still, we appreciated the added functionality of the first two features.

Easy to use, Visibility for Mac performs useful functions that the Finder either can't do on its own, or can't do, easily. This application will be useful to any user who needs to access invisible files and folders on their Mac.

A basic but neat utility, Obscurity for Mac hides your private files and folders from basic snooping, but doesn't really protect your files from a more advanced user determined to get in.

This application downloads with an instruction file explaining how to set it up properly. The setup, itself, is very easy. All you have to do is place the Obscurity folder, which looks like an ordinary folder, anywhere you like, right-click on it, and select "Show Package Contents." This will open the app and show another folder called "Contents" where you just need to drag and drop any file or folder you wish to hide. It is important not to delete this folder, though. Once anyone opens the Obscurity folder they will see it as empty. The only way they can reveal its contents is by right-clicking on it and again selecting "Show Package Contents." Even though it seems like a quick and smart way to hide your private files and folders, the downside to Obscurity for Mac is that Obscurity folder cannot be renamed, so anyone who's heard of the software will instantly know how to operate it.

This application gives an easy yet neat solution for hiding sensitive files, but affords no real security to those who truly need to keep things safe and hidden from others. Users seeking true privacy are encouraged to look elsewhere for an app that uses encryption, while those who just want to quickly hide private files from those who can accidentally stumble upon them, and don't mind the risk, could try Obscurity for Mac.

Make JPEG droplet for Mac unzips into a folder containing three icons named "Jpeg 60," "Jpeg 80," and "Jpeg 100," respectively, with no documentation, making it unclear as to how the program functions at first. However, after a moment everything becomes much clearer. Clicking any of the icons automatically opens the Finder, where users may select a folder for conversion. Alternatively, users may drag and drop images into the application for conversion and compression. Compression quality depends on which of the three sizes the user selects to convert the images, slightly limiting the functionality of the application. The application output saves to the existing folder with no information given to the user as to when the application has completed the conversion. However, during testing the conversion of multiple PNG files into JPEGs completed very quickly and the results looked just as good as the original.
